Looking for creative ideas to solve problems? Want to use creativity as a tool for improving your productivity and quality of life? Do you always want to stay at your creative best? It’s easier than you think. We will tell you how to think out of the box and stay creative in 3 simple steps.
Why do you want to think outside the box?
Creative thinking skills are the need of the hour. Creative thinking could not only help you solve problems but it could also help you gain fresh perspectives to change your outlook on things, giving you the freedom and power to challenge the existing, provide disruptive solutions and generate revolutionary creative ideas. Do remember though, that truly amazing ideas strike us only when we step out of comfort zone, into the world beyond ‘normal’. So be prepared to take the road less traveled in every little thing you do.
What is Creative Thinking?
We’re all surrounded by the same environment, the same set of things that are part of our everyday lives. What differentiates a normal person’s workflow from that of a creative thinker? The creative mind solves problems in a different way, and this can be done in 3 simple steps.
1. Set an impossible goal
It’s important to push your boundaries. That’s why you need to set a goal for yourself that seems impossible to achieve, say for instance, 60 ideas in one minute. Pretty crazy right? But this pushes your brain to hit the 60-idea target, therefore resulting in at least 10 or more ideas. And 10 ideas in a minute is pretty impressive.
2.Trigger your brain
The key is to trigger your brain into thinking in new and unique ways. And for this we will need the help of “triggers”. Triggers could be objects, key-words or even a mood board. You can also use methods like mind-maps and SCAMPER to generate triggers and thereby increase the amount of ideas you can come up with. These can be done as a group, or individually.
3.Diverge/Converge Method
Remember to diverge & converge in every phase of your creative process and not just proceed with the instinctual/default solutions that come to you. To illustrate with an example, if you are ideating for a new product you diverge to generate multitude of ideas and converge to select the best ones. Now you want to conceptualize the selected ideas – you diverge and converge again for variations (guided by moodboards as triggers to help you with decisions like materials, colours and textures). Also, remember to use appropriate triggers in each phase.
It’s that simple ! The 3-step Guide to Mind-blowing Creative Ideas is all it takes to present knock-out ideas for any problem, no matter how complex.
