Junior Design Masterclass @ D-Hive by Gemklip.com. This summer we decided to prepare young minds for the future. With several Design Thinking based workshops packaged into a bundle – called the Junior Design Masterclass. Firstly, during vacation, kids and parents are on the lookout for exciting things that they could do. That is to say, the kids want fun, while parents want kids to gain some new learnings and skills. With Junior design masterclass, we found a way to strike a balance between the two. Day 1 – Out of the box : Design Thinking Workshop A hands-on workshop for kids 6-13 years old. They try out different methods of design thinking and have a tonne of fun in the process. Tutored by Trsna Kiran and Abidah Shanavas. Complimentary stickers designed for the occasion, given to Out-of-the-box Participants Day 2 – Tear down adventure : Materials Exploration Workshop An exciting workshop to help children tear apart products. This helps them it’s internal components. This time, the kids get to know what goes behind the making of a keyboard. Tutored by Chetan Prasad. Day 3 – Upcycle : Creative Re-use Workshop Children learn through a 3-hour workshop how to upscale and re-use products to increase their value. Day 4 – Sketch Up : Design Sketching Workshop Kids explore the various aspects of product design sketching, starting from the very basics.This workshop was hosted by Bharath R. Complimentary sketchbooks given to Sketching workshop Participants Day 5 – Recycle: Design Thinking to save the Earth Design thinking is employed by young minds to recycle objects, thus making the world a little greener. Day 6 – Origami : Paper Folding Techniques Workshop Kids take on the challenge of creating pieces of art using advanced origami methods, in an intense 3-hour session. This session was mentored by Gauthier Raguin. Day 7, 8 and 9 – Design Challenge : Idea to product walkthrough Our fantastic 10-day workshop ended on an enticing note with the last workshop – Design Challenge, where children administered various design thinking methods to turn an idea into a functional product prototype. Memento given to design challenge participants Design Challenge – Part 2 Consequently, after the first Junior Design Masterclass ended, we had a second batch of students joining for Design Challenge. For this group we formulated a 5 Day programme. It consisted of Tear-Down, Out of the Box, Upscale and Design Challenge.
